Advertising Standards Agency Extension Update

Back in September, we reported that the ASA was going to extend its influence in the digital media remit.

Currently it covers all online ads in the paid for space, making sure ads are legal and truthful etc.  From March 2011 the remit will be extended to ads in the non-paid space and around social responsibility and protection of children.

The industry will fund ASA’s work with a levy of 0.1% on media spend and collected at agency level and also from affiliate marketing where the levy will be on affiliate commissions.

There are a number of questions and considerations still being discussed by the ASA and industry bodies, with official communication coming soon by the IAB.  If you have any concerns about how this may affect you, then please get in contact with us here at Tug.
