A Year On the SEO Graduate Scheme At Tug

by Jorja Winfield | 21.07.2016
Summer is finally here, which means the Graduate Scheme will soon be up and running at Tug again! Every year a number of grads join the company as part of the various teams we have here – it’s been almost a year since I started at Tug on the Graduate Scheme as part of the SEO team.

This is the first time I’ve worked in an SEO role, and I’ve gained loads of experience and knowledge in the field since I began working at Tug. Here’s a quick look at a few of the skills I’ve picked up so far:

Outreach

Developing and maintaining relationships with bloggers and journalists is a fundamental part of the role. There’s a lot of research that goes into finding the right kinds of blogs and websites to suit each client. Having a professional outreach strategy in place allows us to work well with high authority influencers in a number of different sectors including lifestyle, technology and finance.

Keyword Research

Knowing the keywords people are searching for in relevant markets is one of the most important parts of SEO. Using Google Adwords Keyword Planner we can discover which keywords have the most potential to help drive traffic and awareness to a website.

META and On Page Optimisation

Once we have our keyword themes, it’s important that pages within a website are focused towards theses. We review the current META and on-page copy edits to see if any optimisation edits can be made. It’s important that on-page copy is of a good length and answers the readers query.

Content Development and Creation

When it comes to SEO, content is king is a phrase you’ll hear again and again. Strong, well-written and reactive content is the key is success in the search results. As a team, we often have brainstorms to come up with exciting new content ideas we can work on. From these ideas, we regularly create engaging and interesting articles and creative pieces with an SEO focus in mind.

SEO Tools

During the past year I’ve learnt to use a variety of different tools for all areas of SEO. Some of the most effective tools we use for outreach include the Moz toolbar and social media tool Followerwonk. When it comes to reporting, Google Analytics lets us report on website traffic AWR Cloud and Raven allow us to report fully on everything that’s going on with a client’s website.

So that’s a little insight into what the graduate scheme at Tug can bring, there’s also plenty of social events to look forward to as well!
