‘We all need silly stuff’, and here’s one!

Music, cats, and a little girl. The three magic ingredients for a successful ad by the looks of things!

I came across the new Three ad and, I’ve got to be honest, it got me rocking on a Friday afternoon. Truth be told, you can almost imagine the creative process behind this ‘viral’ approach: a singing cat (check), a cute kid(check), a timeless piece of music (check)… we are good to go! But the reality of it is: IT WORKS!

‘We all need silly stuff’ is the tagline for the new ad, which everyone can agree with, and the ad brings a smile to people’s faces and kind of makes you want to dance.

After doing a bit of research around the creative concept, it seems that this is the brand’s second try at viral content, following from the ‘moonwalking pony’ ad (yes, you read it correctly) aired in 2013 that had millions of YouTube hits.

Weirdly enough, this is the second singing cat advert that I’ve seen on TV this week (what is it with singing cats?), although in a different vibe, but you see where I’m coming from. This one is by Freeview and features a singing cat and a budgie that seem to be in some sort of weird relationship.

Going back to the Three’s campaign though, the last piece of the puzzle to make this a campaign from the 21st century is the mobile tie in. The TV ad is being supported by a website where users can upload a photo and feature in the ad themselves. The final personal touch!

All that’s left for me to do is leave you all with the ad. Happy Friday!
