US responsible for 18% of all spam

by Ben Romberg | 06.03.2013
According to a report by SophosLabs, the US is responsible for more spam than any other country, clocking in a hefty 18.3 percent of total junk email sent worldwide. Researchers tracked the amount of spam sent over the course of last year from Dec 2012 until  Feb 2013. China took the second spot with 8.2%, India clocked in at a lowly 4.2% with France and Italy coming in joint fourth with 3.4%. The UK didn’t even register which is a big improvement from 6th place last time around!

The report concludes that this does not mean that spammers have all moved into the Lower East Side, but that in recent years spammers have had an easier time compromising computers based in the US and China.
