Google Privacy Law Change today
Google’s privacy law changes today. Now all their sites can share user data. This will allow Google to tailor ads on Gmail for example based on a users preferences on YouTube. Google have stated that they are still committed to privacy.
I for one think this is fine and anyone complaining doesn’t really understand what is happening. While I can see the argument for allowing people to opt-out – consumers still have the ability to remove historical data on themselves at google.com/history.
Behavioural targeting is good for Google, good for advertisers and good for consumers – the more data they have on a consumer the more tailored the messaging – ultimately making advertising more relevant and less intrusive.
Unfortunately the French have an issue with it. I say keep pushing the boundaries Google – the old world doesn’t understand the future of the internet…
