Google’s privacy law changes today. Now all their sites can share user data. This will allow Google to tailor ads on Gmail for example based on a users preferences on YouTube. Google have stated that they are still committed to privacy.
I for one think this is fine and anyone complaining doesn’t really understand what is happening. While I can see the argument for allowing people to opt-out – consumers still have the ability to remove historical data on themselves at
Behavioural targeting is good for Google, good for advertisers and good for consumers – the more data they have on a consumer the more tailored the messaging – ultimately making advertising more relevant and less intrusive.
Unfortunately the French have an issue with it. I say keep pushing the boundaries Google – the old world doesn’t understand the future of the internet…
