Cloud Computing comes to Music

by Faye Daffarn | 25.08.2011
Cloud computing??  ‘What’s that?’ you maybe thinking… I’ve heard this banded around for a while now, seeing as how my boyfriend works in IT Infrastructure.  By definition, cloud computing means that we can store data not just on our laptops or in local servers but in a ‘cloud’ that’s maintained by servers in several locations.  It’s a bit like using electricity without needing to know how it is delivered to us or what components are used.

BBM Music is a new cloud based social music sharing service, which takes advantage of this new form of data storage, and is being launched in a closed beta trial in Canada, US and UK.  BlackBerry is well and truly heading to the clouds but says its service is not designed to compete with iTunes or Spotify.
