A U.S. congressional advisory group has found that China Telecom managed to reroute traffic from major U.S. government and military websites, as well as a few corporate and foreign sites, through its own servers for 18 minutes on April 8.

Wow. The idea is simple. Internet traffic usually takes the most efficient route from A to B. Someone at China Telecom simply sent a message saying that infact the fastest route was through their servers. Dumb traffic fell for the ploy and flowed through. Now no one is saying that they spied on this information – especially because most of it was encrypted.
