Yes @facebook.com is launching

Facebook yesterday unveiled that yes infact they are launching an email service. It has been stated that the goal is not to necessarily take on Gmail and Yahoo mail at their own game – but to create a cross channel email service, which includes social elements. Currently  up to half of Facebook’s 350 Million users use the in channel email service. This is the first time people will be able to communicate outside of Facebook with friends and family not necessarily on the Social Network. This is a smart move as it will be a great tool to acquire other like minded individuals onto Facebook, and will also extend their potential advertising network. Another smart, aggressive move from Facebook.
