Google IO 2010 – Day 2 Roundup

So Day 2 is now over at Google IO, so I think its time for another roundup of announcements.

First of all Google introduced Android and gave some interesting statistics including:

• Google are now activating 100,000 devices a day
• There are now 50,000 Android Apps available to download with 180,000 active developers
• There are now over 60 Android powered devices from 21 OEMs in 48 countries
• Devices are spread across 59 different carriers
• As we already know, Android in the US was the 2nd best selling smartphone this quarter

Google then went on to introduce the new Froyo 2.2 Update which included the following features:

• Full Flash 10.1 support on all 2.2 devices
• Wi-Fi Hotspot
• A speed bost of upto 2-5x
• A new device backup App
• A new JavaScript engine which Google claim to be the fastest on any smartphone
• Over-the-air app installation from a new application
• Remote music streaming (including iTunes)

Finally Google launched the highly anticipated Google TV, Google TV is a new set top box that you can add to your entertainment system which will connect you up to the web. Partners include Intel, Sony, Logitech and Adobe. The new platform will also be entirely open source and based on the Android operating system.
